It was a long-cherished dream, a unique adventure – an “Epic Ride”. Escape the cold February in Germany: experience an adventure with friends and the SIP Scootershop team. In warm Thailand, from Bangkok to Koh Chang – on a Vespa, of course.
Off to 1.000 kilometers of adventure
All those hungry for adventure gathered in Bangkok for the Chinese New Year at the end of January. Long-time friend and founder of Vintage Vespa Thai, Lome, welcomed the group and, together with his family, made sure that nothing was missing, whether it was accommodation or contacts with local Vespa clubs, everything was taken care of.
In addition to the final preparations for the Epic Ride and minor tinkering with the two-wheelers, a generous BBQ at the Vintage Vespa Thai headquarters right on the banks of the subtropical Chao Phraya River provided the necessary refreshment – a perfect start to an unforgettable trip.
Accompanied by a motorcycle police escort, the group battled their way south through Bangkok’s famous traffic jams the next morning. The spectacular views of the countryside quickly made up for the tropical sultriness and the hustle and bustle of the big city.
40 Vespas on tour
After a night in the coastal town of Royong, right on the Gulf of Thailand, more Vespa friends joined the group. In addition to the Northern Scooter Run from Chiang Mai, the Pattaya Scooter Club also joined the tour. More and more scooter riders spontaneously joined them along the route. The Vespa Corso consisted of 40 scooters, some of which were particularly spectacular and creatively converted. Minor scooter defects on the route were unavoidable and required the occasional use of a wrench. However, the Thai scooter friends proved to have real improvisation skills. There was a big round of applause for “Mr. Benz” on the ferry to Koh Chang. A scooter had a piston jam and our spontaneous savior in distress dismantled the engine at the roadside and repaired the scooter during the ferry crossing.
